Merging Records

 

The process of “Merging” consists of the following steps:

1)    You click the Merge link for the slave record.  This is the record to be deleted in the merge operation.

2)    The tool automatically combines the data for any Auto-Merge fields (such as Min, Sum and Concatenate fields) and updates the Master record on the left (this is the record to be kept) with this merged data.  We strongly recommend you read the help section Auto-Merging: How fields are automatically merged to familiarize yourself with the details of how various fields can be merged together.

3)    The tool then deletes the slave record – leaving no trace.  Note that this cannot be undone. However the data is only being updated on the internal copy of the database.  Your original source data isn’t touched until you are ready to export your changes.
