Merging Data: An Introduction

 

The process of manually merging duplicates requires you to scan the matching records and decide which record you want to keep (the Master record), and which you want to delete (the Slave record). 

The tool shows two matching records side-by-side, color coding the values in each field to show what data would remain after a merge operation (in green) and what would be lost (in red) so you can decide what editing (if any) needs to be made before merging the records:
