Manual Editing of Records

Manual Editing

You can edit the value of any cell and any record simply by clicking on the cell (placing the cursor there) and typing in the new value.

Use the  Copy-over Button for quick edits

You can use the  Copy-over Button to copy over the contents of the slave records cell into the master records cell.

In this example, the slave record (on the right) has the correct data (name split into First and Last):

So you would click both the  buttons to copy both values over: “Jack” to fill in the blank FirstName field, and “Spiller” to overwrite the incorrect data – resulting in the following:

The Auto-copy over feature

When a text field is blank (or null) in the master record, the slave record value will automatically be copied over when that record is merged.

In this example, the First Name field is blank in the master record, so the value in the slave record “Jack” would automatically be copied over when you click the merge link.  This is why it’s highlighted green – because that value would not be lost during a merge operation.

If you didn’t want this to happen, you would have to edit the slave record cell to also be blank like the master.
